From the late seventies Pieter and Helene Bos started to be involved in prayer, intercession and spiritual warfare for nations and cities, and teaching on it.
During their YWAM-Amsterdam staff time (1983-1998) this developed internationally; they were invited to teach (Croatia, Brazil, Malawi) or to lead prayer (South Africa, Six Nations Rhine Project). Sometimes they were sent (by YWAM, by the EPL) to pray (Russia, Mongolia), sometimes they were delegated to confess national sins (Indonesia, Northern Ireland, Ghana), sometimes to network (USA, Korea, Slovenia) or to pray (Belgium, Turkey).
In October 1998, and with the blessing of YWAM, "Serving the Nations" was established as an independent entity.

The RESEARCH has focused on the spiritual dynamics in nations and especially in the United Nations (Helene), and on the Corporate Identity of nations (Pieter). Topics such as the influence of the Queen of Heaven and the theology of identificational confession of corporate historic sins were researched and pioneered.

The TEACHING has included the subjects of intercession and spiritual warfare, the destiny of nations and cities, preparing the church for the end time. In 2002 Pieter's book "The Nations Called, a Theology of the Nations and their Redemption" was published. Also, after her well-received message in Kampala, Uganda, Helene started her book "The Emergence of Two Global Infrastructures." Conferences and seminars on these topics were initiated and international teachers were introduced in The Netherlands.

The INTERCESSION included leading prayer teams to several UN-events (Helene, in fact since '96); this has led to stimulating intercessors in these areas internationally through prayer alerts; providing leadership to the Dutch City Prayer Movement, the Transformations.NL team, the European Prayer Link (EPL), the Europe-Africa Reconciliation Council and the Six Nations Rhine Project Team, and representing The Netherlands in reconciliation journeys to Indonesia and Benin, West-Africa. In 2003 initiative was taken towards a National Reconciliation Coalition.

In the first seven years of Serving the Nations, from October 1998 till the end of 2005, Pieter and Helene made no fewer than 103 international journeys, serving 40 different nations, fifteen of which were "new territory:" - in Okinawa, Japan, Helene has interceded during the G8 meeting; - Pieter was teaching in Finland, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Malawi and Zimbabwe, and networking in Guatemala; - together they were invited to teach, to share with politicians, and to stir the vision for a national prayer movement in Pakistan, Kuwait and Kenya; -together they were involved in spiritual warfare in Portugal, Romania and networking in Poland; - Helene went to intercede in Greece and Iraq and was speaking to politicians in Ivory Coast.
