Pieter studied architecture and served as city planning consultant in Holland and Singapore from 1968 to 1982. During these years he developed a Bible-based philosophy of planning and taught on this and related topics at conferences and universities.

Helene studied psychology and worked as a selection-officer. She developed a biblical understanding of sexuality and marriage and taught extensively on this and related topics in churches and conferences, and pioneered prophetic counselling in The Netherlands.

Both Pieter and Helene were students under Dr. Francis Schaeffer during the seventies. Their previous professional background and experience, including the submission of these to the Lordship of Christ, continue to shape their life and ministry.

During the seventies they established and led a Christian residential community.

In 1983 God called them to full-time missionary service with Youth With A Mission, Amsterdam. Pieter served on the board of this mission. In 1986 Pieter pioneered the Amsterdam City Prayer; in 1987 he pioneered the City Prayer Movement in Holland, which he has coordinated since then. In 1988 he felt led to call a, first ever, European prayer leaders conference. In 1992 he co-founded, and untill 2002 co-led, the European Prayer Link (EPL). He was the Central European Coordinator of the Spiritual Warfare Network (SWN) of the former AD 2000 Movement. Both in his professional period and as a missionary he has published his views. As these involvements developed, Pieter and Helene felt led, in 1998, to establish a separate foundation for this ministry, "Serving the Nations." Pieter and Helene travel extensively, together and individually, in Europe and beyond, to teach at conferences and to lead intercessory actions. Helene has led several intercessory teams to UN(-related) conferences on four continents. Their burden, to contribute to the preparation of the Church and the Nations for the endtime, increases as they travel.

Mission Statement Pieter
My calling is to give intercessors and spiritual and government leaders biblical hope and help that their nations and cities can be redeemed.
"On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples... he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations" (Isa 25:6-7)
He teaches internationally on the destiny of and prayer and spiritual battle for nations and cities, and is involved in prayer and reconciliation actions for nations and cities. In The Netherlands he co-ordinates the City Prayer Movement and the Reconciliation Coalition.
Equipping the church to serve her nation:
The Church has been given to her nation to rule over that nation through prayer and, in that way, to lead her nation to the throne of God for the “covenant meal for all peoples”.

Mission Statement Helene
My calling is to discern spiritual dynamics in societal developments from an end-time perspective, and to help spiritual and political leaders to understand the times.
"... to turn the hearts of... the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord" (Luke 1:17b)
Since the early nineties she has been speaking at conferences (incl. political conferences) on spiritual dynamics in political developments. She has visited UN-conferences as an intercessor. She communicates the spiritual dynamics she discerns internationally to intercessors and politicians.
Equipping the church to serve her nation:
The Church’s task is to discern the signs of the times, the dynamics in society; to interpret them spiritually and to speak prophetically to hernation.

Pieter and Helene (both born in 1940) have four grown children.
